SEASON THREE:

EDUCATION FROM AN EQUAL: BOLD

This season, I won’t be holding back any controversial opinions and I’m discussing my personal experiences. We are going to be talking about slut-shaming, abortion, racial disparities in access to contraception, empowerment through childbearing, inequities in the birthing process, stigmatization of STDs, and so many other important topics. This season is going to be much more opinion-based than previous seasons, and I hope to bring on my peers who can help to further broaden understandings of sex education.

Education from an Equal Bold was co-produced by Natalie Goldberg and Roshun Sunder. Music is by Mete Bakircioglu.

EPISODE ONE

In this episode, I’m talking with my male friends about birth, menstruation, and female puberty in general to see what they know, both from taking public school sex-ed and from the internet. Let’s just say I was unsurprisingly underwhelmed with their knowledge, and that it shows just how much improvement is needed for public school sex-ed curriculum.

EPISODE TWO

In this episode, Hannah discusses her experience with abortion as an ambitious fourteen-year-old girl denied birth control by her parents while living in rural Oregon. She shares frank insights about what she was able to gain from her abortion and how we should all work to view abortion as a medical procedure, rather than a life-altering, shameful, or traumatizing event.
